Demisters, also known as droplet separators or mist eliminators, are filters designed to remove liquid droplets from a gas stream. These droplets form due to condensation, evaporation, chemical reactions, or other industrial processes.
Demisters are used to: ✔ Recover valuable substances ✔ Prevent damage to equipment and pipelines ✔ Reduce unwanted emissions
They are widely used in oil refineries, petrochemical plants, and chemical manufacturing.
HOW DOES A DEMISTER WORK?
There are two main types of demisters:
Wire mesh demistersDroplets collide with a fine mesh due to inertia, causing them to stick to the fibers. They merge into larger droplets. Once heavy enough, they fall out of the gas stream.
Baffle separatorsThe gas flow is redirected through a series of baffles. Droplets, due to their inertia, cannot follow the new path and are captured on the separation surfaces. The liquid accumulates and is drained away.
BlueFil®
Benvitec has developed BlueFil®, a patented material with a unique pyramidal structure, ensuring: ✔ Maximum droplet separation with minimal resistance ✔ Lower pressure drop and more efficient ventilation ✔ Extended cleaning intervals
BlueFil® is available in PP, ETFE, and PFA, and can operate at temperatures up to 204°C.
Ideal for droplet separation, contact media in scrubbers, and coalescing material for air and water treatment.
In Detail
1. Gas flow
Fans push the gas stream, containing liquid droplets, through the demister.
2. Inertia effect
Droplets collide with the wire mesh or baffles.
3. Droplets merge
Small droplets combine into larger ones.
4. Liquid removal
The larger droplets fall due to gravity and are drained from the system.

BLUEFIL®
ENERGY-EFFICIENT SOLUTION
A standard demister’s performance depends on:
– Specific surface area and wire thickness
– Air velocity and pressure drop
Thanks to its optimized structure, BlueFil® enables smaller and more energy-efficient fans compared to conventional demisters.
Curious about how much energy you can save with a BlueFil® demister?
